After a successful legal career in the corporate world of New York City, I decided to return to the practice of law in its purest and most rewarding form – where a lawyer establishes a close, one-on-one working relationship with a client who requires counseling or representation in litigation or other proceedings. On a legal landscape where too often establishing a meaningful connection with the client is lost among less important considerations, my practice is founded on the belief that the personal attention of an experienced, thoughtful and committed counselor is the key element necessary for success. I chose the beautiful Hudson Valley for my practice, where the pace of life is different, but the need for quality legal representation is just as critically important.
I am the founder and principal attorney of Lawrence S. Menkes P.C., with an office in Stone Ridge, New York serving clients in Ulster County and surrounding areas. I am an experienced litigator and family law attorney who has been advising clients for over 40 years. I have the knowledge and skill necessary to achieve a favorable resolution of your case and to provide the guidance and support you need to protect your rights.
Experience and Education
I began my education at the State University of New York at Albany where I earned a bachelor of science in business administration and management. I then went on to Brooklyn Law School where I earned my juris doctor in 1981. I was admitted to practice in the state of New York in the following year and have been serving clients ever since.
I began my legal career as a law clerk for the Honorable Henry Bramwell, U.S. District Judge in Brooklyn, New York. After gaining valuable experience in legal research, analysis, and writing, I began my career in private practice as an associate with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP & Affiliates and later with Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP. I then joined Con Edison as Associate Counsel where I litigated and provided client advice for more than 23 years.
In 2013, I founded my own firm where I currently concentrate the majority of my practice on litigation matters, ranging from environmental to business cases. I also provide family law services to individuals and families.
I am also the Ulster County Representative on the Office of Attorneys for Children Liaison Committee of the Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department.
